SENZO by CORVON®
Production Guidelines
Senzo by Corvon® features a soft, matte coating that combines unique tactile appeal with stain and scuff resistance.
Foil Stamping and Embossing
Metallic foils are recommended.
Please contact your foil supplier for recommendations on the most appropriate foils for SENZO by CORVON®
Their input should be your primary guide, however the following processes / materials have been successfully used: Copper or brass dies; Crown Roll Leaf, Inc® metallic foils with a loose release (BW88 and BD92), and Nakai NV. These have worked well for small to medium foiled areas, as well as fine text. Typical temperatures for stamping and embossing range from 240-260°, and should not exceed 300°.
Offset Printing
UV inks can be used with success. If conventional offset inks are used, 100% solids, oxidizing inks are recommended. Lift size should be 4” or smaller, to alleviate set off, especially on a dark sheet. Set off compounds may shorten drying times. A silicon-based spray powder of 52-micron size is recommended. Ink coverage and lift height will affect your final choice.
Depending on the opacity of particular ink, a double hit, or opaque white, may be needed as an underlayer on the darker colors of SENZO by CORVON®. For optimal opacity on Black SENZO by CORVON®, metallic inks are recommended. Metallic ink can also be used as an underlayer for other inks, since metallic inks have greater opacity than opaque white. When metallic inks are used, a spot varnish should be applied to prevent set off. Allow ink to dry overnight before applying varnish.
For optimal results, we recommend screen size of up to 150 lpi. Under-color removal may be required on jobs with large, dark areas.
As is typical for matte coated stocks, some infrared press sensors may have trouble-detecting black. Consult with your press manufacturer. Some printers have overcome this issue by applying white tape along the edge of the first few press sheets.
Please note that heavy ink coverage will mask the soft feel of SENZO by CORVON®.
Screen Printing
SENZO by CORVON® yields excellent results with screen-printing. UV (3200 series has worked well) or solvent-based inks may be used. Consult your screen printer.
Coatings
Aqueous and UV coatings can be used on SENZO by CORVON®, however the soft finish will be masked where coating is applied.
Note: Due to the specialty nature of this sheet, and variability of individual pressroom equipment/conditions, sample sheets should be fully tested prior to actual print run. Determination of the suitability of SENZO by CORVON® for the intended use is the user’s responsibility.
